چکیده

Ab initio calculations, based on norm-conserving pseudopotentials and density functional theory, have been performed to investigate the displacive Sb adsorption on the Si(0 0 1) surface with the (2 1) reconstruction. For the onemonolayer coverage of Sb, even though the formation of a pure Sb–Sb dimer is energetically more favorable than the interdiffusion of Sb into any of the second and third substrate layers, we found further that this interdiffusion will relieve the tensile stress along the dimer bond leading to an increasing isotropy in surface stress indicating that displacive adsorption might still be an intermediate step towards surface roughness. 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. Effect of Si on the oxidation reaction of α-Ti(0 0 0 1) surface: ab initio molecular dynamics study

We present our ab initio molecular dynamics (MD) study of the effect of Si on the oxidation of α-Ti(0 0 0 1) surfaces. We varied the Si concentration in the first layer of the surface from 0 to 25 at.% and the oxygen coverage (θ) on the surface was varied up to 1 monolayer (ML). The MD was performed at 300, 600 and 973 K. For θ = 0.5 ML, oxygen penetration into the slab was not observed after 1...

Optimizing electronic structure and quantum transport at the graphene-Si(111) interface: an ab initio density-functional study.

We use ab initio density-functional calculations to determine the interaction of a graphene monolayer with the Si(111) surface. We find that graphene forms strong bonds to the bare substrate and accommodates the 12% lattice mismatch by forming a wavy structure consisting of free-standing conductive ridges that are connected by ribbon-shaped regions of graphene, which bond covalently to the subs...

The semiconductor-to-ferromagnetic-metal transition in FeSb2

We propose FeSb2 to be a nearly ferromagnetic small gap semiconductor, hence a direct analog of FeSi. We find that despite different compositions and crystal structures, in the local density approximation with on-site Coulomb repulsion correction (LDA+U) method magnetic and semiconducting solutions for U=2.6 eV are energetically degenerate similar to the case of FeSi. For both FeSb2 and FeSi (F...

Atomic and electronic structure of Sr / Si ( 001 ) - ( 2 · 2 )

The adsorption of Sr on the Si(001) surface with the semiantiphase dimer (2 · 2) reconstruction is studied, based upon the ab initio pseudopotential calculations. It is calculated that the semiantiphase dimer (2 · 2) reconstruction (2 dimers per unit cell) is more favorable than the (2 · 1) phase (1 dimer per unit cell) by an energy of about 0.24 eV/dimer. Considering the energetically more sta...

Phonon dispersion of silicene on ZrB2(0 0 0 1).

We measured the phonon dispersion of silicene (monolayer Si with a honeycomb lattice) on ZrB2(0 0 0 1) using high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy. The measured phonon dispersion was compared with ab initio density functional theory calculations for a silicene model with [Formula: see text] periodicity of the substrate. The most stable [Formula: see text] silicene structure, which i...
